This being my last post, I'm kind of sad.. I've decided to post something "sad" related. Here is a video that I found that inspires me with amazing quotes. I hope you take them all to heart, because I sure did.

Photography in History

I was looking up the history of photography and came across this website, which I think you all would be interested in. It tells about where it originated from and how it got its name.

Watch this video on vintage photography. It's basically just a slideshow.

Digital?

Digital photography has to do with a digital camera. Mainly, digital photography is in a studio for a portrait. Family, or kids, etc. I know you can find photography studios almost anywhere. Wal-Mart, Kmart, malls, on the street, etc. But, you should also go to one that has good reviews so that they're nice to you when you go to have pictures taken.

Frenzy Friday!

So, tomorrow is prom for my school. The theme for it? Carnival. So, I want you to send me a picture of you doing something silly!  It doesn't matter what, as long as it's fun. That's the only rule.

I hope to see a lot of fun photos!

Frenzy Friday!

So, prom is almost here, and I'm sure most, if not all, girls are excited. Maybe the parents/grandparents are happy as well. Prom also means pretty dresses, up-do's, manicures, pedicures, make-up, etc. So, Friday Frenzy is to send me a picture of your prom dress to jmyers901@yahoo.com and I'll post your dresses on my blog! Hope to see multiple dresses from you all!

Have fun!

Do You Like Digital or Polaroid?

In my opinion, I would prefer to use a digital camera. It's better than a polaroid disposable camera, for one. And for two, it's easier to see if you like the outcome before you get your pictures developed.

It's more high-tech, yes, but it's still better, in my opinion. What do you all think? Which would you prefer? Tell me what you think! Send me your opinions to my email at jtmyers901@yahoo.com and I'll read what you have to say!

Monday Madness!

So, my camera has recently broke, and I cannot get out to take picture of anything or anyone..

I've decided to give you all a topic theme, and have you go out and take a picture and then send it to my email.

Okay, so the topic theme is Flowers. Go out and take 5 pictures of any flower you think is pretty and send it to my email. Then, I'll post them with your name at the bottom of each picture!

Have fun!

My signature, <3, is on any picture that I edit. That way people know I edited it.

Frenzy Friday!

Do you remember when you were just a little kid? Do you remember how you looked? Do you remember when you had no cares in the world? I know I do.

This week's Frenzy Friday, see if you can find a picture of yourself when you were little, and post it to my blog! This isn't really being creative with your skills as a photographer, just to bring back memories of your carefree days.

If you don't have any pictures of you as a child, you can post one from your school days, or something like that. Just so you can remember the days.

Have fun, and stay young!

Nikon D7000: Impossible to Find?

So, I just found this article about a Nikon D7000 digital camera. It tells all about the camera, and how it's hard to find.

The camera, itself, is around $1,200. Now that's an expensive camera!

"A professional feel and features make the ultra-capable Nikon D7000 one of the hardest cameras to find on the market today, for good reason.", says the article.

I've posted the link to the article if you'd like to read about it.

(Please be aware: The pictures in this post were not taken by me, they're pictures from the article. Thank-you.)

SD Memory Cards made Easy

The 'SD' in 'SD Memory Card' stands for Storage Device. SD Cards can hold pictures and movies, depending on the available space and GB(gigabyte) size.
It stores your pictures and videos until you upload them to a PC or laptop. You can also use an SD Card to develop your pictures. All you do is go into any Wal-Mart, Walgreens, CVSPharmacy, etc., and put the SD Card into a machine and choose the pictures you want printed out.

This, alone, shows how far our technology for photography has come. From film, to dark rooms, to simple, little cards.

How's that for technology?

Online Schools

Say you don't want to go to a campus college. For personal reasons, or you don't want to leave home, or you have a child and the school you want doesn't have a child care program. Maybe you're an adult wanting to go back to school to earn a degree. Whatever the reason, you can always check out schools online.
Some online schools, as well as the links to their website, that you can look in to if you're interested are:
  • Acamdemy of Art University, online.academyart.edu/schools/photography/
  • The Art Institue Online, aionline.edu/Photography

You can also go to google and type in "online photography schools" and it will give you a website that you can search your general area and request information.

I, myself, am trying to take an online course through the College of Lake County(CLC, Illinois). So far, I've only been able to apply for on-campus education.

I hope you will be able to find a school, on-campus or online, that you like!

Cameras

With the many different types of cameras out there, how do you know which one to choose? What brand is best? Where can I find a camera? How much do they cost?

Questions most, or all, photographers ask at some point in time during their career. The answers aren't complicated, though they can be mind-dwelling at times.

There are MULTIPLE different types of cameras out there, and when you're choosing a camera, it can be kind of difficult sometimes. When you're choosing a digital camera, and you're wanting to know what to choose, choose the one that's most comfortable in your hands. That you know and understand how to use it.

What brand is best? Well, that's totally up to you! There is no good or bad brand. You may perfer Kodak when I would rather have Conan. You should always choose a brand where you can trust the company and trust that you'll always get the best outcome from your photos.

You can usually find a good digital camera in Wal-Mart, Kmart, Best Buy. Any place that sells electronics, you can usually find a nice digital camera. Costs of the cameras may vary depending on the brand, store, and the quality camera.

Today's the first Wednesday Workshop! This means that it's time for you to edit the photo I have posted at the top!

This photo is still the same theme from Monday Madness, 'Teamwork'.
You may need to fix the brightness, contrast, hue, resolution. Maybe even crop the photo. You can add things to it such as icons, words, stickers, etc.
So, be creative, have fun, and enjoy!

Inspirational Quotes

Quotes by some great photographers help me keep my inspiration alive when taking pictures. Maybe they can help inspire you, too.

  • "There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are." - Ernst Haas

"A picture is the expression of an impression. If the beautiful were not in us, how will we ever recognize it?" - Ernst Haas

  • "With photography a new language has been created. Now for the first time it is possible to express reality by reality. We can look at an impression as long as we wish, we can delve into it and, so to speak, renew past experiences at will." - Ernst Hass

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything." - Aaron Siskind

A quote that I came up with on my own, Anyone can take a picture, but it takes a true photographer to turn it into something magical.

Photoshop Software

Photoshop is when you edit a photos contrast, hue, saturation, or brightness. You may even add text, or maybe different color effects. You may move an object of the photo, straighten it, or crop.
There are many different ways to use photoshop. As are there different software's.

Adobe Photoshop is, in my opinion, the best desktop software when it comes to photoshop.

There are great software programs for iPod, iPad, and/or iPhone.

  • PhotoStudio (Free)

  • TypeDrawing (Free)

  • iRetouch Free (Free)

  • PS Express (Free)

  • Picture Effect Magic (Free)

There are plenty more, but those are some of the ones I would recomend.

Things to Expect

I will be having a couple activity days during the week to have fun and help you express your creativity. The way you will be able to recognize these days by Monday Madness and Wednesday Workshop. They will be weekly occurrences.

Here's a brief description of the activities:

-Monday Madness: This is all about having fun. Each Monday I will have a theme for you. You will be able to take your own photo based on the theme of that day, and post it on my blog for others to see. This won't be a competition, just something for fun and express yourself. This will allow you to prepare a photo for that challenge.

-Wendesday Workshop: This is all for creativity. I will post a photo on Wednesday, and you will be able to take that specific photo and edit it according to that Wednesday Workshop theme. After you have edited the photo, you will then post it on my blog for others, and myself, to view it. Again, this is all about having fun and is not a challenge.

-Frenzy Friday: This is when I tell you the day before the challenge who or what to take a picture of, and you post it on my blog. It's really fun, and you should always be creative!

I will post the challenge themes together the Thursday prior to the next challenge days. This will allow you to prepare yourself for the challenge. Remember, have fun and be creative with them!

Photography Fields

With the multiple types of photography fields, choose the one that works for you. The one that fits your specific style of photography.

Some of the many fields are;
-Portrait
-Nature
-Studio
-Self-Portrait
-Wedding
-Yearbook

There are many different types of fields in photography. Some of the most common types are portrait and nature. You should pick the field that you're most confident in and enjoy doing. That's when you'll have the most success in your photos. I will talk more about each individual field in other postings.
